Position Location: This position is hybrid and will be based in ACT’s NYC office.

Reports to: Coordinator of Workforce Programs

Employment Type: Part-time Internship 

Duration: September 1st to November 27th, 2026 ( 3 months)

Hours: Up to 12 hours per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays 

Salary: $22 per hour

ACT works to support and empower African immigrants to integrate socially, advance economically, and engage civically. ACT connects African immigrants to services, empowers our members to develop as grassroot leaders, and leads campaigns for social change. ACT’s African immigrant membership comes from a diverse range of nationalities, cultures, and languages, and is religiously diverse, majority women, and predominantly working-class and low income. 

Position Description: 

ACT is seeking a motivated intern to join our Workforce Team in Fall 2026. The internship will support our Healthcare Support Career Accelerator tutoring program during the Fall 2026 cohort.

This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in education and workforce development while building skills in program coordination, participant engagement, and community-based service delivery.

This  internship position will run for 3  months, and conclude on November 27th, 2026.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist the ESOL instructor during in-person HSCA classes (setup, materials, attendance).
  • Provide weekly group and/or 1-on-1 tutoring for HSCA participants .
  • Assist with administrative tasks as assigned
     

Qualifications: 

  • Experience facilitating tutoring sessions for individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in English is required. 
  • Excellent in-person, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Previous tutoring or ESOL teaching experience is highly preferred.
  • Must have access to a working laptop.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and other common business software.
  • Understanding of and passion for ACT’s mission and values.
  • Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented team player.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Comfort working with diverse, immigrant communities; multilingual a plus (e.g., French).
  • Alignment with ACT’s mission and values. 
  • Must be available to come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays during class time
